Assalamoalaikum,
Here is a question I have not been able to solve:
The Holy Quran says: "If you see any human being then say I have promised Rahman a fast. Therefore I would not talk to humans today" Mariam 27.
Now there are following points to discuss:
1. Why is Mariam told to fast on the day of giving birth to Isa a.s. Normally women are given leave or forbidden to fast at such periods.
2. Mufasserun say she was to hold a fast of silence. I have not been able to find any clue to a fast of silence in jews. Christian monks do something similar but not jews. Zakariah a.s. was not told to do fast but just not to speak.
3. If she was told to keep fast of silence then how could she say "I have promised Rahman a fast. Therefore I would not talk to humans today"
4. If it was not a fast of silence what was it then ? The same Ayat says: "Eat and drink"
Can anybody help ?
Wassalam
